Your adventure begins in Teruel, a city celebrated for its architecture recognized as UNESCO World Heritage. From the wide, open plains of Teruel, the route leads you toward the legendary Sierra de Javalambre and through a landscape that shifts dramatically as you ride. You’ll follow the Palancia River, the most important waterway in Castellón, and explore the stunning natural beauty of the Sierra Espadán and Sierra Calderona Natural Parks.
The tour concludes in Valencia, where the Mediterranean Sea and the impressive Albufera Natural Park—home to one of Spain’s most iconic lagoons—welcome you at the end of this unforgettable cycling journey.
This journey along Spain’s longest greenway combines striking landscapes, rich heritage, and Mediterranean charm. In one trip, you’ll explore three provinces—Teruel, Castellón, and Valencia—cycling through mountain scenery, fertile valleys, and toward the sea. Highlights include UNESCO-listed Mudéjar art, the story of the Lovers of Teruel, impressive viaducts and tunnels, and beautiful natural areas such as the Sierra Espadán and Sierra Calderona parks, the Palancia River, El Salto de la Novia, and the Albufera lagoon. You’ll ride through forests of kermes oaks and fields of olives, almonds, persimmons, and oranges, pass the celebrated Elm of Navajas, and follow sections of iconic routes like the Way of Cid, Vía Churra, and Vía Augusta. With opportunities for truffle tourism, stargazing, and a vibrant finale in stylish Valencia, this is an unforgettable all-year adventure.
Itinerary
Relax in Albarracín
Show dayElevation gain: 596 m
After breakfast, you begin your ride along the Ojos Negros Greenway—once the railway route used to transport coal from the hinterlands (Ojos Negros) to the Mediterranean port of Sagunto.
Along the way, you’ll pass small inland villages like Gea de Albarracín and Cella, home to Europe’s largest artesian well, dating back to the 12th century.
Your destination is Teruel, city of the Lovers of Teruel, capital of Mudéjar art, and UNESCO World Heritage site. Discover its rich cultural and architectural treasures including the Neomudéjar staircase, Torre del Salvador, Plaza del Torico, the Mausoleum of the Lovers, the cathedral, Puente de Piedra, and the Portal de San Roque. Teruel is also renowned for its gastronomy—particularly its exquisite black truffles.
Elevation gain: 481 m
Leaving Teruel, you cycle toward Estación Mora. The route leads you through the recreational area of Fuente Cerrada, with its pine forests and riverbank vegetation, before climbing up to Puerto de Escandón, an old mining station.
You then cross the Sierra de Javalambre and descend toward Puebla de Valverde, where the former mining station La Fondica offers a lovely outdoor terrace for a break.
From Puebla de Valverde to Sarrión and Albentosa, you ride across impressive stone bridges, viaducts, and tunnels surrounded by magnificent kermes-oak landscapes. This region is home to the world’s largest production of black truffles.
Your day ends at Estación Mora, where you can enjoy unique experiences such as truffle tourism or stargazing—this area boasts one of the clearest night skies in Spain thanks to minimal light pollution.
Elevation gain: 292 m
Today’s stage takes you to Segorbe, whose historic center is listed as a Site of Cultural Interest and serves as the capital of Alto Palancia.
Much of the route is downhill. You’ll cross the Albentosa tunnel and emerge onto the highest viaduct of the entire Greenway—an unforgettable viewpoint. Past the old El Palancar mining station, you enter the province of Castellón.
Ride through the forests of El Palancar, rich in Valencian oaks and kermes oaks, and continue through the charming villages of Barracas, Caudiel, Jérica, and Navajas. From the Ragudo viewpoint, enjoy sweeping views of the Sierra Calderona and Sierra Espadán Natural Parks.
Don’t miss Navajas’ El Salto de la Novia, a 60m waterfall, or the historic Elm of Navajas (planted in 1636 and elected Spain’s Tree of the Year in 2019).
Finally, cross the Sierra Calderona Natural Park to reach Segorbe, where you’ll have a free afternoon to explore its atmospheric old town.
Elevation gain: 179 m
From Segorbe, the route leads through villages surrounded by orange groves and the foothills of the Sierra Calderona: Algimia de Alfara, Torres-Torres, and Los Valles.
When you reach Canet d’En Berenguer, the Mediterranean Sea greets you with its long promenade and one of Spain’s most beautiful—and most awarded—Blue Flag beaches.
You may also visit the 30-meter lighthouse, the 19th-century Saavedra Palace, and the 18th-century Church of Saint Peter.
Elevation gain: 160 m
Leaving Canet d’En Berenguer, you follow the Vía Churra and Vía Augusta. Ride along the Mediterranean coast and through the heart of Valencia’s historic vegetable gardens.
Arriving in Valencia—birthplace of painter Joaquín Sorolla and writer Blasco Ibáñez—you enter a city where history and modernity meet.
If you didn’t have time to visit on Day 1, explore its UNESCO-listed gems and architectural highlights: the Cathedral, the Water Tribunal, La Lonja, Torres de Serranos, Plaza de Toros, and the Central Market.
On the modern side, discover the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences. The Turia riverbed park—Valencia’s green lung—is another iconic feature of the city.
Elevation gain: 79 m
No trip to Valencia is complete without visiting the spectacular Albufera Natural Park—223 km² of rice fields, forests, dunes, and unforgettable sunsets.
Walk through the El Saler meadow, home to many endemic species, and explore the traditional fishing village of El Palmar with its typical Valencian houses. Be sure to try the local specialty All i Pebre.
This evocative landscape inspired Blasco Ibáñez’s famous novel Cañas y Barro. After this sensory-filled experience, cycle back to Valencia for one last evening in the city.

Accommodation is one of the most important parts of each trip that strongly influences the final look of it. We make our best to offer you the best possible accommodation in the prefered category. The hotels we offer are either comfortable small hotels or quite guesthouses both in 3* quality, all of it rather small and with personality than big chain. All the tours have accommodation in or near the town/village centres so you can spend the afternoon and evening after biking exploring the town itself or simply enjoy the peace of the place.
