Start your cycling tour in Salzburg, the city of music, culture, and historical landmarks, renowned as the birthplace of W. A. Mozart. Upon arrival, you can visit some of the city's main attractions, such as Hohensalzburg Fortress, the largest medieval fortress in Europe, or take a stroll through the beautiful Mirabell Gardens, which are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Heading south, you cycle along the car-free Salzach to Hallein and Kuchl. Continue on side roads via Werfen on the well-developed cycle path to St. Johann im Pongau. The day tour can be shortened by taking the train parallel to the cycle route every hour and then only 29 km/61 m elevation (hourly intervals; approx. € 8.50 payable). Cycle to Schwarzach-St. Veit, then take the train to Bad Hofgastein (passenger ticket included, bike approx. € 3 on site). Continue by bike to Böckstein and board the Tauern motorail to Mallnitz (person and bike included). From Mallnitz, ride downhill into the Drava Valley to Möllbrücke. Follow a flat, mostly car-free route along or near the Drava River via Paternion to Villach, known for its charming old town. Today you ride through the core section of the Alpe-Adria Cycle Path—car-free and following the former railway line through the narrow Fella valley to Pontebba. Continue after a short on-road segment to Osoppo or Gemona. Overnight stay in a 3-star hotel.

Partly car-free and close to the Tagliamento River or on quiet side roads, the route leads past Osoppo and Buia through the fertile Friuli landscape to Udine, a vibrant historic trading town full of architectural highlights. Overnight stay in a 4-star hotel.

On cycle paths from the city center into the fertile surrounding countryside and through romantic villages such as Pavia, you cycle to Palmanova, a Venetian fortified town (16th century) with Piazza Grande, cathedral, numerous Renaissance palaces and completely preserved city fortifications. Cycle on well-maintained paths and secondary roads through the distinctive Monfalcone lagoon before taking a short train ride to Trieste (bike ticket approx. € 2 on site). Overnight stay in a 3 or 4-star hotel.
