Tour description

This gravel tour begins in Villach, a lively town at the meeting point of the Drau and Gail rivers on the edge of the Klagenfurt basin. Shortly after the start, you leave Austria behind and continue your journey into Italy, entering the diverse region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

This area is known for its varied landscapes and rich cultural mix. Austrian, Slovenian, and Venetian influences come together here, shaping not only the architecture and traditions but also the local cuisine. Along the route, you can experience this unique blend of cultures through regional dishes and wines.

Gradually, the scenery changes as the peaks of the Carnic Alps fade into the distance and the route leads you south toward the sea. The landscape opens up, and the Adriatic coastline appears with its long stretches of sandy beaches. The tour ends in Trieste, the historic port city that once served as the main maritime gateway of the Habsburg Empire.

Route Overview

The tour follows a mix of dedicated cycle paths and very quiet country roads, passing through small villages and scenic landscapes. The first stages are mainly on asphalt, while the final sections combine paved roads with attractive gravel tracks, adding variety and a true adventure feel to the ride.

Our self-guided tours

Accommodation is one of the most important parts of each trip that strongly influences the final look of it. We make our best to offer you the best possible accommodation in the prefered category. The hotels we offer are either comfortable small hotels or quite guesthouses both in 3* quality, all of it rather small and with personality than big chain. All the tours have accommodation in or near the town/village centres so you can spend the afternoon and evening after biking exploring the town itself or simply enjoy the peace of the place.
