Tour description

Embark on an unforgettable cycling journey from Amsterdam to Bruges, gliding past historic towns, charming villages, and scenic canals on top-quality bike paths. This route showcases the most picturesque gems of the Netherlands and Flanders, from Gouda to Bruges, with stunning nature reserves along the way.

Experience an unforgettable cycling adventure from the Netherlands into Belgium, following scenic bike paths past historic towns, charming villages, and picturesque canals. Pedal from Amsterdam to Bruges and discover hidden gems you might otherwise miss. The route takes you southwest from Amsterdam, offering countless photo opportunities in beautifully preserved towns such as Gouda, Dordrecht, Willemstad, Zierikzee, Middelburg, Vlissingen (Flushing), Sluis, Damme, and finally Bruges. This predominantly rural tour also winds through stunning nature reserves.

This is a linear route, also available in reverse, starting in Bruges. Beginning in Bruges may offer a better chance of tailwinds, though, of course, the weather is unpredictable! Want to explore more of Belgium? Ask about additional cycling days to Ghent and Antwerp or check out our Belgian Biketours options. Please note that bike rentals may not be available for every start and end location—be sure to check with us for suitable options.

On this trip you can choose from Category A and Category B. Hotels in Category B are more economical, sometimes located further from the center and may have fewer stars. Due to availability, it might be necessary to book a combination of cat A and B hotels.

Leaving the bustle of Amsterdam behind, you’ll cycle into the tranquil Groene Hart (Green Heart), a scenic region of low-lying polders, peat meadows, and traditional windmills. Church spires dot the horizon as canals mirror the sky. Your destination, Gouda, has been a lively marketplace for centuries, renowned for its cheese, charming squares, and historic buildings like the 15th-century town hall and the Weighing House (Waag). An evening stroll through the Old Town is the perfect way to soak in its timeless charm.

Pedal through the Green Heart of Holland to Kinderdijk, where 19 majestic windmills, standing since 1740, tell the story of Dutch water management. Today’s route follows the edge of Biesbosch National Park, a rare freshwater tidal wetland teeming with creeks, islands, and birdlife. Continuing south, you’ll pass through the picturesque town of Veere, which flourished in the 16th century as a hub for Scottish wool exports. The journey leads to Middelburg, the capital of Zeeland and a former powerhouse of Dutch trade. Wander its historic streets and discover the grandeur of its golden age.

After breakfast, cycle to Vlissingen and take a ferry to Zeelandic Flanders, a region of meandering country roads, pollard willows, and quiet villages. Accommodation is one of the most important parts of each trip that strongly influences the final look of it. We make our best to offer you the best possible accommodation in the prefered category. The hotels we offer are either comfortable small hotels or quite guesthouses both in 3* quality, all of it rather small and with personality than big chain. All the tours have accommodation in or near the town/village centres so you can spend the afternoon and evening after biking exploring the town itself or simply enjoy the peace of the place.
