Itinerary
Arrival in Lecce
Show dayIn the late afternoon, meet our staff for a trip briefing and bicycle/GPS handover. Afterwards, enjoy a stroll or bike ride through Lecce’s historic centre—the “Florence of the South”—renowned for its Spanish-style Baroque architecture and Roman ruins.
A completely flat route on quiet secondary roads. First stop is Cavallino, home to an open-air museum on the Messapian civilization, followed by Calimera, where you may visit a nature museum showcasing local flora and fauna. Continue through olive groves lined with dry-stone walls to Martano, capital of the “Salentine Greece.” Overnight stay in Martano.
During the Middle Ages, Greek was widely spoken in Salento due to Byzantine influence. Today, a dialect survives in the Grecìa Salentina, a small region of nine municipalities. Cycle through several of them—Zollino, Sternatia, Martignano—exploring charming historic centres and sampling regional specialties such as sceblasti, a soft bread seasoned with vegetables.
Continue through the Grecìa Salentina to Castrignano de’ Greci and admire the ancient pozzelle—public rainwater collection basins. Ride on to Corigliano d’Otranto, known for its impressive castle (optional visit), then to an organic farm near Cutrofiano, which also produces cheese and honey. Overnight stay in Galatone.
Begin the day picking vegetables in the farm garden—or join a hands-on cooking class with Anna at her country house with a swimming pool. Learn to prepare orecchiette and pitta di patate, then relax before setting off toward Galatina. Visit the Church of Santa Caterina with its Giotto-style frescoes, explore the historic centre, and taste the famous pasticciotto, best enjoyed warm. Return to Galatone for the night.
Cycle through olive groves dotted with pajare, characteristic dry-stone huts. Possible visits include the Norman-era Fulcignano Castle in Galatone, the Messapian Museum in Alezio, or a detour to Tuglie’s Radio Museum. Continue to the seaside town of Gallipoli. Overnight stay in Gallipoli.
A leisurely coastal ride leads to Porto Selvaggio Natural Park, a protected 1,000-hectare woodland by the sea. Enjoy swimming in spring-fed waters and relaxing by the coast. On your return, stop in Santa Caterina—famous among locals for its excellent ice cream. Overnight stay in Gallipoli.
Onward travel
Show daySpend the morning exploring Gallipoli’s atmospheric old town with its narrow lanes and historic fishing traditions. Don’t miss a glass of local wine served in the former underground olive mill.
Transfer to Lecce, Brindisi, or Bari.

Accommodation is one of the most important parts of each trip that strongly influences the final look of it. We make our best to offer you the best possible accommodation in the prefered category. The hotels we offer are either comfortable small hotels or quite guesthouses both in 3* quality, all of it rather small and with personality than big chain. All the tours have accommodation in or near the town/village centres so you can spend the afternoon and evening after biking exploring the town itself or simply enjoy the peace of the place.
