Tour description
South Tyrol invites you to discover its beauty on two wheels. Riding along well-maintained cycle paths, you’ll experience the region’s unique character, traditions, and local flavors. The journey leads through unspoiled landscapes with rushing rivers, scenic lakes, and the dramatic backdrop of the mountains, all shaped by centuries of history and culture.
Along the way, you’ll enjoy the famous hospitality of South Tyrol, with its delicious cuisine and excellent wines. The route follows comfortable cycle paths from the eastern Puster Valley and the Dolomites to the regional capital of Bolzano, then continues to Lake Kaltern, the spa town of Merano, and into the picturesque Vinschgau Valley.
Route Overview
This is an easy and enjoyable tour suitable for most riders. In recent years, many valley cycle paths have been modernized or newly built, making the route comfortable and accessible. Although South Tyrol is known for its mountains, this itinerary mainly follows gentle valley paths with only small elevation changes. It is well suited for families with children aged 14 and above.

Itinerary
Arrival in Brixen/Bressanone
Show dayIndividual arrival at your hotel in the historic town of Brixen/Bressanone. Take time to explore the charming old center, its cathedral, and the relaxed South Tyrolean atmosphere.
In the morning, you are transferred from Bressanone to Dobbiaco, where your bikes are provided. Today’s route follows the cycle path through the scenic Puster Valley, passing the entrance to the famous Pragser Valley. Riding along the Rienz River, you continue past the Olang dam and reach the historic town of Brunico. From there, the path leads back through the valley, past the ruins of Mühlbach Fortress, and into the Eisack Valley. Before returning to Bressanone, you can visit the Neustift Abbey and enjoy the town’s beautiful historic center.
Today you cycle along the Eisack Valley bike path, following the river through rolling vineyards known for their white wines. On the way, you pass the picturesque town of Chiusa, a perfect place for a short stop. The day ends in Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, where you can stroll under the arcades, relax by the river, visit the famous Ötzi the Iceman in the Archaeological Museum, or enjoy a coffee in one of the lively cafés.
Today’s ride explores the renowned wine-growing region around Lake Kaltern. Passing Sigmundskron Castle, you cycle toward Appiano, the largest wine-producing area in South Tyrol, known for its castles, manor houses, and vineyards. Continue toward Caldaro, with an optional detour to the peaceful Montiggler lakes for a swim. After visiting the village and the Wine Museum, you reach Lake Kaltern before returning to Bolzano along the Adige cycle path.
Leaving Bolzano, you follow the famous Wine Road through orchards filled with South Tyrol’s renowned apples. Along the way, you pass through Andriano, home to the region’s oldest winery, and continue through Terlano, Nalles, and Lana. The stage ends in the elegant spa town of Merano. While here, consider visiting the beautiful botanical gardens at Trauttmansdorff Castle.
A train takes you from Merano to Malles in the upper Vinschgau Valley. From there, you cycle back through the entire valley toward Merano. The route passes through Glorenza, the smallest town in South Tyrol, and continues through orchards and charming villages such as Prato allo Stelvio, Lasa, Silandro, and Naturno before returning to Merano.
On your final cycling day, you ride into the peaceful Passeier Valley along its dedicated cycle path. Enjoy the views of rivers, alpine landscapes, and surrounding mountains before returning to Merano for your last evening.

Accommodation is one of the most important parts of each trip that strongly influences the final look of it. We make our best to offer you the best possible accommodation in the prefered category. The hotels we offer are either comfortable small hotels or quite guesthouses both in 3* quality, all of it rather small and with personality than big chain. All the tours have accommodation in or near the town/village centres so you can spend the afternoon and evening after biking exploring the town itself or simply enjoy the peace of the place.
